On this date in 2002, Michael Jackson received the Artist of the Century Award at the American Music Awards. It was his 22nd award at the annual event, and he’s won the most awards of any male solo artist, with 26 in total. This month in 1980 began his AMA hot streak with the success of his first adult solo album, “Off The Wall” which netted him three awards that year including Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist, and Favorite Soul/R&B Album and Song, with “Off The Wall” and “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough,” respectively.
