On this date in 1984, “Thriller,” the title track of the album and its seventh and final single, peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Originally it was not intended to be a single, but Michael came up with a plan to release it with the 14-minute short film with the goal of putting the album of the same name back on the top of the charts.
